PESHAWAR, Nov 1: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday restrained the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and the Peshawar Board of Secondary Education from conducting an inquiry against Hangu District Nazim Ghaniur Rehman regarding the genuineness of his school certificate.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Afzal and Justice Jehanzeb Raheem suspended an order of the ACE whereby an inquiry had been launched against Mr Rehman.

The bench issued notices to respondents, including the ACE and the education board, while hearing a writ petition through which Mr Rehman had challenged the inquiry.

Mr Rehman, belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao), had defeated Khan Afzal of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam in the Oct 6 polls for district nazim.

Mr Afzal had lodged a complaint with the ACE, charging Mr Rehman with possessing forged secondary school certificate.

Advocate Qazi Muhammad Anwer appeared for the petitioner and contended that the inquiry was politically motivated.

He said the petitioner had passed his matriculation in 1972 and conducting an inquiry after more than three decades had mala fide intentions.

Soldier Fires: A paramilitary soldier shot his senior in Miramshah, North Waziristan Agency, on Tuesday, officials said.

Sources said soldier Ashraf Bangash sought leave to celebrate Eidul Fitr with his family but his requst was turned down by Hawaldar Arshad Afridi.

The refusal made the soldier angry and he opened fire on him. Officials said that Hawaldar Afridi sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

The accused has been arrested and an inquiry ordered into the incident.
