KARACHI, Nov 1: The Edhi Foundation has expressed grave concern over the snatching of its two ambulances and warned that if the government did not make efforts to recover the ambulances, it would be compelled to suspend ambulance service.
In a press release issued on Monday, Edhi spokesman said that a man, identified himself as Fareed, demanded an ambulance near the old Sabzi Mandi in Karachi for shifting a patient to Sibbi. The ambulance (EA-0066) left the city for Sibbi with the patient and his five attendants. As it reached near Dera Murad Jamali early Monday morning, the patient and attendants beat the driver, snatched cash and took away the ambulance leaving the driver. A case has been registered with the police station concerned.
In another incident, six armed men intercepted an ambulance (EA-1566) on Sakrand Bypass. They drove the ambulance away leaving behind the driver. The case was registered with the Sakrand police station, the spokesman added.
He said that the founder of the Edhi Foundation Mr Abdul Sattar Edhi expressed his grave concern and said that the hijacking of ambulances showed a conspiracy being hatched against the foundation.
He appealed to the governor, the chief minister and the authorities to look into the matter and take appropriate measures to get the ambulances recovered.
APPEAL: Abdul Sattar Edhi has appealed to the people not to donate old clothes for the quake victims as they were unwilling to accept them. He asked people to realize that millions of rupees were incurred in transportation of relief goods. They should donate such items, which would be beneficial for the quake victims, he added.
