Four alleged terrorists arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Oct 31: Rawalpindi police claimed to have arrested four terrorists, belonging to a banned sectarian organization, involved in the murder of religious leader Agha Ziauddin in Gilgit.

This was claimed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Rawalpindi Syed Moravat Ali Shah at a press conference held at his office on Monday.

The police also seized four hand grenades and the same number of pistols from them.

The DIG said the arrest of the four came about after the station house officer of Pirwadhai police station, during routine patrolling, spotted four persons identified as Shah Rais Khan, Izhar Wali, Aurangzeb and Nasir Abbasi acting suspiciously.

During questioning they disclosed that they all were from Gilgit and belonged to Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.

The DIG said the arrested persons confessed to having murdered Agha Ziauddin in Gilgit. They were presently residing in Shakrial.

Moravat Ali Shah also said the accused were planning to attack the procession held on Youm-i-Shahadat Ali with grenades. However, strict security arrangements made by the police prevented them from going ahead with their plan. Similarly, the four men had also planned a terrorist attack on another religious procession brought out on the occasion of Youm Al-Quds. But they failed due to police presence.
