NA body raises Rs13 million for quake victims

ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Member of Parliament and private donors had donated Rs13 million in the National Assembly relief fund for quake victims. This was stated by Speaker Amir Hussain while presiding over the National Assembly Relief Committee.

The meeting reviewed the relief activities in the quake-affected areas of AJK and NWFP and expressed satisfaction over the pace of relief activities and support being extended to the people in the affected areas. The meeting appreciated the contribution of national and international organizations to help in providing relief to the people of affected areas.

The Speaker while briefing the meeting underlined the need for more coordination in the relief activities. He apprised the meeting that Army has involved local bodies representatives in the relief activities in the affected areas that has streamlined and coordinated the relief work there.

The meeting was informed that the committee has delivered nine trucks of goods containing foods, medicines and blankets to the people of affected areas.

The meeting underlined the need for active involvement and participation of the parliamentarians in the relief work and establishment of national organization for dealing and monitoring of national disasters. The meeting was also briefed by MNAs Mr Liaqat Baloch and Saradar Shahjehan Yousaf.

BAGH: Action Aid Pakistan- One truck carrying food items, blankets, tents, candles and matchboxes for 100 families in coordination with Care International.

Second team of Action aid and SDPI Pakistan is planning to go to Rawlakot, may be with 6 doctors (with medicines/ equipment), one truck comprising instant food, water, and medicines and surgical Instruments. Third team is also going to Bagh with volunteers and surgents along with one truck of food, water, blankets and baby food Care International.

Rawalakot Oxfam: For 18,000 families, Winterized tents, blankets, jerry cans, plastic sheets and hygiene kit Oxfam is being supported by ECHO for the overall earthquake response. Three thousand four hundred tents donated by DFID for the earthquake response. AJK Kashmir Areas not mentioned RSP Send 16 trucks to affected areas in Kashmir (Shelter, Food Items, Blankets, Medicines and a team of 50 doctors).

Muzaffarabad: Emergency camps which can hold 2,500 families, in partnership with other organisations (Islamic Relief, Action Aid, Save the Children-UK) - Technical support in establishment of latrines/watsan facilities in camps. - Concern staff participated in distribution of 750 blankets donated by DFID. 500 food packages, 500 mattresses,500 health kits. IR and Concern are working in partnership in Bagh, Dir Kot, Rawlakot, and Muzaffarabad, Nil Islamic Relief, Action Aid, Save the Children-UK IN Camps management DIFID denoted Blankets

Rawalakot: Islamic Relief: 10,000 families in AJK with food for two weeks (10,000 tents, 10000 plastic sheets, 50,000 mattresses, 50,000 quilts/blankets/medical supplies.

Distribution of DFID funded 1,000 tents, 10,000 Tarpaulin sheets and 750 blankets in District Muzaffarabad.
