KARACHI: Order reserved

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 31: The Sindh High Court reserved its order on Monday in a petition against the provincial government’s failure to appoint four candidates recommended by the Sindh Public Service Commission as senior managers in its information technology department.

The petitioners submitted through Advocates Shahanshah Husain and Naushaba Solangi that they were recommended by the SPSC on a requisition made by the provincial government. Despite their repeated requests to the authorities concerned, no action was taken on the recommendation despite a lapse of nine months.

The candidates approached the high court and while their petition was still pending, the government advertised temporary vacancies of senior info-tech managers. Applications for ad-hoc appointments were sought afresh for the posts they had already been selected to, the petitioners maintained. A provincial government law officer countered that the government was not obliged under the law to accept the commission’s recommendations and that the petitioners had no vested right.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro reserved order after hearing the arguments and asked the government to maintain the status quo pending the petition’s disposal.
