KARACHI: Sindh govt to take over four Darul Amans


KARACHI, Oct 31: The provincial government is to take over the administration of four darul amans in the province. The decision was taken at a meeting preside over by Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman on Monday, where problems relating to darul amans in the province came under consideration.

In order to improve their managements, it was decided that the provincial government would take over the administration of darul amans in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana.

A summary seeking the chief minister’s approval in this regard will be forwarded by the Social Welfare department.

Secretary Social Welfare Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, in the meeting, also highlighted the background of setting up of darul amans.

In the light of experiences and observations, she emphasised that the facilities which were to be provided through darul amans, not only warranted an increased budget, but also required strengthened security, medical care, consultations, etc.

The chief secretary observed that steps to be taken for bringing an improvement in the overall management of darul amans were inevitable at the provincial level and a concerted strategy would have to be adopted in that regard.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Finance Malik Israr Hussain, Secretary Home Brig (Retd) Ghulam Mohammed Mohtaram, Secretary General Administration Abdul Qadir Mangi and other officials.

They expressed their commitment to work for initiating full-fledged measures in taking over the managements of the darul amans.

It was also decided that after the transfer of managements of the said darul amans from local, district governments to the provincial government, cooperation of non-governmental organizations and philanthropists would be sought.—APP
