Horse-racing: Height Of Happiness clinches Cup
LAHORE, Oct 30: Thoroughbred four-year-old filly, Height Of Happiness lived upto her star billing when she won the Gujrat Cup run over 1600m at the Racecourse on Sunday.
This was the feature event of the 9th Lahore Winter Meeting and a class III handicap race. Ridden by jockey M. Hanif, the fancied filly, Height Of Happiness beat Lucky Murad by over six lengths, Prince Of Gujrat, making his first appearance after a long time finished third, about two lengths back while Challenger failed to put up any challenge worth the name and to be content with fourth position among seven runners.
Trained by a former champion trainer, Haji Ghulam Sarwar, the filly from English sire, Key Of Luck is owned by Mian Shafqat Rasul, who received the cup from Pakistan’s former Ambassador to South Korea, Syed Parvaiz Hussain Shah soon after the race.
The supporting event, the Wazir Abad Cup run over the sprinting distance of 1200m was won by dark bay mare Freedom Dancer, who beat favourite Trace Hit by four lengths. Running Stage and Brave Majesty completed the frame among seven contestants. The winner’s owner Hamza Khan received the cup from former international hockey star Munir Dar.
Three-year-old bay colt Thrill, who won the fifth race to his liking was the best performer of the day. He gave an arm- chair ride to jockey Shahid Rehman, who had earlier partnered Motivator and Green Street in the second and fourth race to complete a treble. He had earlier romped home Motivator in the second race and Green Street in the fourth.
He was lucky to get the mount of Green Street at the last moment when he replaced M. Zeeshan at the Starting Gates. Jockey M. Hanif shared riding honours scoring a double through Height Of Happiness and Zoro in the eighth and last race of the day.
Three firm favourites obliged the backers of form when a lengthy card of eight races was gone through.
