ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: World community continued send relief assistance for quake victims as more aircraft landed at the Chaklala Airbase carrying relief goods on Sunday.
During the last 24 hours 1,360 tents from China and 1,000 tents from Iran have been received at Chaklala airbase.
Planes carrying consignment of relief items, including 250 tents, 3.6 tons of medicines from Germany, UK, USA and Jordan arrived, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release said.
Another consignment from China, Bahrain and Jeery Danata Cargo containing 700 tents and 200 blankets also arrived today, it added.
Kuwait and Luxembourg have also dispatched 70 tons of miscellaneous relief items, while Pakistani Consulate in Russia has dispatched 4,500 tents.
Five cargo aircraft carrying relief goods from NATO also reached. Besides relief goods, the NATO has also sent one field hospital, medical equipment and medicines for providing better medical treatment to the victims of quake-hit areas.
Meanwhile, a cargo aircraft from Germany carrying ambulances and medicines also reached at Chaklala Airbase.
CHINA: A 41-member Chinese medical team along with equipment from Malaysia already reached Pakistan and started providing treatment to the quake victims.
China will send more medical teams to Pakistan.
Chinese children held a charity show in Beijing on Sunday to show solidarity with thousands of their same age-group who became victim of the devastated earthquake.
They put on display their precious articles including toys on sale, collecting money to dispatch it to Pakistan through Red Cross Society of China.
Meanwhile director of second team of the China International Search and Rescue (CISAR), Mr Zhao Heping, said on Saturday that the quake-hit areas in Northwest Frontier Provinces (NWFP) are still in urgent need for international aid.
Mr Zhao made these remarks before leaving Islamabad for NWFP, where his team will carry out medical treatment for local victims, Xinhua reported.
The team was informed that the earthquake falling on Oct. 8 had killed more than 50,000 people and injured 75,000. In a total area of 20,000 square kilometres, 4.5 million people still have shortage of tents.
So far, 45 international aid teams with more than 870 staff members as well as 202 local medical teams are working in the area.
DUTCH AID: The world’s largest aircraft carrying 190 tons of relief goods from the Netherlands arrived Saturday at Chaklala airbase.
The Russian made Antonove-225 brought relief goods like, 500 arch tents having capacity of 8-10 persons each; 500 heaters, 5,000 blankets, 500 mattresses and 120 stretches.
The aircraft, which was manufactured back in 1988 for transport of space shuttle, touched down the Islamabad runway for third time. Earlier, it had brought relief goods from Canada.
Dutch Ambassador Willem Andreae handed over the consignment to the Pakistan authorities for further distribution among the displaced and homeless people.
UAE: The UAE Red Crescent Society’s team has distributed relief goods in Patika, Azad Kashmir, the UAE Ambassador, Mr Ali Mohammed Al-Shamsi said on Sunday.
The ambassador said that choppers carried blankets, tents and food supplies to hundreds of affected people in Patika.
The RCS has so far brought seven planeload of relief goods and purchased some from the local market, he said.
Meanwhile, the Women Associations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah are mobilizing campaigns to collect donations.
The ambassador, while giving details of relief assistance offered by UAE, said that soon after the quake UAE donated $100 million to the Government of Pakistan and sent search and rescue teams from Abu Dhabi and Dubai with sniffer dogs. He said that armed forces delegation and medical teams established a fully equipped 100-bed field hospital in Balakot on October 12.
A relief air-bridge has been established and 25 planes with relief goods brought comprising 1,200 tons of items have arrived. The ambassador said the military Institute for rehabilitation medicine in Rawalpindi and the UAE Armed Forces have agreed on an arrangement for the treatment of serious cases in UAE.
He informed that a total of 38 serious injured were airlifted to UAE. A UAE Red Crescent Society team has surveyed the affected areas and engaged in distribution of tents, blankets, food items and medicines purchased from the local market.
He said that Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Charitable and Humanitarian Works is engaged in relief operations in Balakot. A total of 12,000 blankets and 7,600 tents have been distributed and ration cards were given to 5,600 registered families in Janoon and other villages in the first week.
The UAE boy scouts have donated 40 tons of relief goods of which 20 tons consignment arrived here on Tuesday.
MARAFIE FOUNDATION: US humanitarian agencies deliver shipment of $375,000 in medical supplies and pharmaceuticals to relief commissioner NWFP Peshawar through a Kuwaiti charity.
Freedom and Peace Trust and Direct Relief Intentional of the US begin cooperation with Marafie Foundation Kuwait to alleviate the suffering of earthquake affected areas.
Today’s shipment follows nearly $17 million in medical aid already delivered by the trust in partnership with Direct Relief International and other sponsors, partners and supporters to Iraq. This is the first time that the FPT delivers humanitarian aid to areas outside of Iraq.
GLOBAL PHARMACEUTICAL: Global Pharmaceutical has contributed so far Rs60 million towards the earthquake relief fund.
Besides this amount, the staff of the company has contributed their one-day salary to mitigate sufferings of the quake victims, said Director Global Pharmaceutical, Dr Abid Ali here Sunday.
He said the company’s team also visited the quake-stricken areas and distributed relief goods including food, tents, blankets, daily amenities and clothing to the victims.
Since Oct 8, the company has been running a medical camp at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where medicines and other necessities were being provided to the quake victims.
