HYDERABAD, Oct 30: Activ-ists of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat and People’s Cultural Wing on Sunday held a demonstrations across Sindh in protest against abolition of Salees Sindhi teaching in class-XI.
They demanded that the Sindh governor should rescind his order abolishing the teaching of Sindhi at the intermediate level.
They said that if a notification for the compulsory teaching of Salees Sindhi for class-XI was not issued by Monday, a series of protest demonstrations would be held across Sindh.
Speaking outside the Hyderabad press club, Sangat’s secretary-general Taj Joyo said the federal education ministry had already issued a notification for compulsory teaching of Sindhi language at the intermediate level.
He said that all colleges through EDOs were issued instruction to start the teaching of Sindhi language in class-XI, but the Sindh governor issued a counter-notification, abolishing the teaching of Salees Sindhi language to Urdu-speaking students of class-XI.
He said that the governor had once again tried to create a gulf between the Urdu-speaking and Sindhi people.
Mr Joyo said that writers, poets and intellectuals would foil any conspiracy to create ethnic division in the province. He said that Sindhi was an ancient language and the people of Sindh would not spare any sacrifice to protect it.
He warned that if the mandatory teaching of Sindhi language was not resumed for students of class-XI, a protest campaign would be launched in Sindh.
The president of the Sindh chapter of the People’s Cultural Wing, Mr Sarfaraz Rajar, said that Sindhi language stood for our culture and history and no one could abolish it.
He said that there was very close relationship between the Sindhi and Urdu-speaking people and no one could create any difference between them on the basis of language.
He did not rule out hunger strikes and protest march up to the Sindh governor’s house, if the teaching of Salees Sindhi language to the students of class-XI was not restored.
PPP leader Jam Saqi, educationist Shamsuddin Ursani, writer Atta Mohammad Bhambhro and water expert Nazeer Memon also spoke on the occasion.
SANGHAR: The Sindhi Adabi Sangat held a rally and demanded inclusion of Salees Sindh subject at the intermediate level.
A procession was taken out from the National Bank chowk which terminated at the press club.
Members of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association and Primary Teachers Association participated in the rally.
Noor Chakrani of the Sangat, Siddique Unnar (SPLA), Aijaz Mangi, Amar Leghari and Pir Bux Sarang spoke on the occasion.
They said that Sindhi language had been in use in courts, education and other institutions before the partition.
They said after the creation of Pakistan, systematic tactics were adopted to eliminate Sindhi language from all institutions, specially from the educational institutions.
They said that the Sindh governor should not interfere in the 1972 resolution which was passed by the Sindh Assembly.
They demanded that the educational boards be handed over to the Sindh education department to avoid interference from the governor.
KHAIRPUR: Secretaries of different units of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, poets and writers took out a procession from the court road chowk demanding introduction of Sindhi as compulsory subject in class-XI. Amar Iqbal, Ibrahim Kharal and Murtaza Junejo led the rally.
The protesters marched through the Mall road, civic centre chowk and reached at Chhatti chowk.
They said that the recently issued notification should be taken back and Sindhi should be taught as a compulsory subject at the intermediate level.
JACOBABAD: A protest procession was taken out by the Sindhi Adabi Sangat against the notification for exclusion of Sindh subject at the intermediate level here on Sunday.
The rally started from the SAS office and after passing through different roads reached the press club. They were carrying banners and placards.
Aijaz Shahzado, Dr Dad Mohammad Brohi and others spoke on the occasion.
They demanded that the government should cancel the governor’s order or issue a new notification for teaching Salees Sindhi in class-XI.
SHIKARPUR: A procession was taken out by members of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat here on Sunday. The protesters staged a demonstration at the Lakhi Gate tower chowk.
Anwar Soomro, Qazi Manzar Hayat, Naveed Alam Abro, Naimatullah Bhutto and Barkat Bhutto demanded that the Sindh government should enforce the Sindhi Language Bill 1972 in interests of brotherhood between Urdu and Sindhi speaking people of the province.
DADU: A big protest procession was taken out by writers, social workers and activists of different political parties from the Ghanta Ghar chowk to the press club Mehar to protest against deletion of Sindhi subject at intermediate class.
They were led by the spokesman of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Anwar Azad Kandhro.
Sangat members in Dadu also held a demonstration outside the press club.
MITHI: The local chapter of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat organized a silent rally, supporting the policy of Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim with regard to teaching of Sindhi language at the intermediate level, reports PPI.
The participants of the rally, holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of the chief minister, marched through various roads and streets of the town.
Sangat general secretary Daleep Kothari led the rally while PML labour leader Ghulam Mohammad Rahmoo also participated.
