KARACHI, Oct 30: An activist of Sunni Tehreek was gunned down in Arambagh area on main M.A. Jinnah Road by unknown persons just before Iftar on Sunday. The killing led to closure of shops in the downtown area effecting Eid shopping.
Nadeem Qadri, 28, alias Nadeem Mota had come out of Alam Shah Bukhari Mazar located opposite to Jama Cloth Market and was passing in front of the shop of Mashallah perfumes on his motorcycle when four unknown persons on two motorcycles opened fire on him and fled, police said.
According to reports, the attackers had used kalashnikovs, police said.
Police said Nadeem who suffered multiple bullet wounds was rushed to the nearby Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A large number of activists of the ST gathered outside the Accidents and Emergency Department of the Civil Hospital creating tension in the area.
Following the target killing, youths forced down the shutters of shops resulting in the closure of shops in the downtown area.
Wanted by police, Nadeem Qadri, was keeping a low profile for the last few months, said a senior police official.
According to a statement issued by the ST, Nadeem Qadri was to get married on the fifth day of Eid.
KILLED: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was beaten to death allegedly by some youngsters in Landhi on Saturday evening.
Police said Samiul Haq, 19, was standing near his house in Shaheed Colony sector 36-G when he had an argument with some youths of the area. The youths numbering from four to five gave Sami a severe beating and fled.
The victim was taken to hospital where he later died during treatment, police said.
ACCIDENT: An elderly man died in a hit-and-run accident in Lyari on Sunday.
Police said Noor Muhammad, 60, was crossing the road near Baloch Mohallah when a speeding truck knocked him down. The victim was taken to Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
ARREST: A youth was arrested by the police for allegedly killing his friend near a religious seminary in Baghdadi.
Police said that Tanveer was playing with a pistol owned by Omar Khan, 24, when it suddenly went off. As a result, Omar who was sitting beside Tanveer died on the spot. Police arrested Tanveer for killing unintentionally. Both the youths were students of a religious seminary, the police said.
ROBBERY: A man was shot at and wounded when he offered resistance to bandits in Juna Market on Sunday evening.
Gul Hasan carrying Rs100,000 was intercepted by the armed bandits near Hari Mosque in Juna Market. As he put up resistance, the bandits shot at him, snatched the money, and fled.
