KARACHI: Residents want road repaired

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 30: Residents of Lyari have urged the city government to resume the suspended repair work on a major commercial route in the town as the dilapidated condition of the road is causing problems for people.

The major link road between Lyari, Saddar and SITE towns is in a dilapidated condition for many years because of negligence of civic authorities.

The Shah Latif Bhitai Road is one of oldest and busiest road in Lyari Town linking it with Saddar and SITE towns.

A survey of the town showed that the road was not properly maintained in the past and it had developed potholes at various places, making driving on the road difficult.

Residents have continuously urged authorities concerned to take effective measures for repairing the road.

As a result of public pressure, a part of the road stretching from Bihar Colony up to the Slaughter House bus stop near the Govt. Technical School, Lyari has been built under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

However, a major part of the road from Technical School up to Aga Khan Maternity Home, Kharadar, could not be built because funds meant for the purpose could not be released, thus, suspending repair work.

Residents of the locality have expressed concern over the undue delay of road repair work and have blamed civic authorities for neglect.

They have urged the city and town administrations to resume work on the important artery.
