LAHORE, Oct 29: A delegation of Delhi Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the administrative committee of the community temples, called on Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi here on Saturday and presented him relief goods and medicines for the quake-hit people.

The delegation, led by Harvinder Singh Sarna, presented 35,000 blankets, 3,400 tents, 35,000 metres polythene sheets and medicines worth Rs 500,000.

He said the Sikhs in the Indian capital were collecting huge quantities of relief goods for the quake victims in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. These goods were being stocked in temples from where they were being transported to Pakistan, he said.

The chief minister appreciated the Indian Sikh community and said its members in different other countries of the world had also offered relief for the victims.

Senior officials told the chief minister that the trucks carrying the relief goods by the Indian Sikhs had reached Wagah on the third day of the earthquake.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee head Sardar Bishan Singh also called on the chief minister and donated 1,350 tents, 13,000 blankets and three tonnes of polythene sheets for the quake-hit people.

He told the chief minister that the committee had already sent 18,000 blankets and 1,500 tents to Muzaffarabad, and 5,000 blankets, 500 tents and medicines to Batgram. The committee was also daily providing food to 2,000 victims.

The chief minister appreciated the gesture shown by the Pakistani Sikh community.
