LAHORE, Oct 29: The Punjab-based tent manufacturers on Saturday assured Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi of providing 210,000 tents worth Rs1.32 billion by Nov 30.
The manufacturers’ representatives gave the assurance at a meeting with the chief minister which was also attended among others by Chief Secretary Salman Siddique.
The chief minister said in the present scenario, the government was expecting that the tent manufacturers would fulfil their national and human responsibility and ensure the delivery of the quality tents within the stipulated time.
He made it clear that the government would not make any compromise on tents’ quality. He announced that only such tents would be accepted which would be made according to the defined specifications, having the ability to withstand the harsh winter and snowfall in the open areas.
The chief minister directed the officials attending the meeting to keep checking the tents’ quality, besides pace of their production.
He also urged the factory owners to personally supervise the production of tents right from the selection of canvas to the final stage of stitching.
He stated the provincial government had chalked out a programme for the phase-wise supply of tents and added the factory owners should make all arrangements in advance, strictly following the schedule.
He said the timely preparation of quality tents for the affected people was a collective responsibility of the provincial government and the manufacturers. He said the government would not let the financial resources affect the tent supply.

They also said that they were manufacturing tents while fully realizing that they were to protect human lives in the extreme weather conditions and heavy snowfall in the quake-hit areas.
