Policeman held for assaulting boy

By Niaz Khattak

SANGHAR, Oct 29: Police on Saturday arrested a constable who had allegedly attempted sodomy on a 14-year-old boy. The parents of the boy, Wajid, residents of a small village, Workshop, near the Head Jamrao, had gone to Azad Kashmir to help their relatives stricken by the Oct 8 earthquake.

In the parents’ absence, constable Mushtaq Shar called the boy and took him to a nearby sugarcane field and allegedly tried to assault him.

The boy started screaming on which his relatives and villagers rushed to the scene and overpowered the accused.

The accused was brought to the village.

When relatives of the accused received the news, they attacked the villagers with fire arms and released the accused.

The villagers along with the victim went to the police station to lodge an FIR but Papoo Shar, Naib Nazim of Shah Sikandarabad, a relative of the accused, was present there. Instead of taking action against the constable, police detained the complainant.

Higher authorities were informed and on intervention of high-ups, an FIR was registered against 10 people. The Mangli police arrested the constable.
