Inquiry by Wapda chief demanded: Hesco jobs

By Qurban Ali Khushik

DADU, Oct 29: A large number of affected candidates, who had applied for different jobs in Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, Hesco, marched from the main bus stop to the press club in Khairpur Nathan Shah on Saturday demanding an inquiry under the chairmanship of Wapda Chief Tariq Hameed to look into the entire matter.

Led by affected candidates’ leaders, Sikandar Gadhi, Saleem, Mohammad Ishaque and Zameer, they carried banners and raised slogans against the Hesco officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of the protesters said that hundreds of graduates appeared in the written tests held in March and April 2005 for different positions in Hesco and interviews in June.

They said that Hesco officials issued appointment orders for different categories of selected candidates who had backing of politicians.

Besides, they added, that in certain cases appointment letters were issued to those who never appeared in the written test or interview, allegedly after getting bribe from them.

They alleged that the Hesco officials had received fresh applications after interviews and written tests from the influential persons in Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka and issued appointment orders to maintain the record.

They said that the appointment orders were not issued on merit.

They appealed to the President of Pakistan to conduct an inquiry through the Wapda chairman, Tariq Hameed, to provide justice to hundreds of candidates who appeared in test for different Hesco posts.

Later, they observed a token hunger strike.

The taluka president PPP, Noor Mohammad Chandio, district president Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, Hafiz Mohammad Ameen Jamali and others visited the hunger strike camp and assured their support to them.

ARRESTED: Three people including two policemen were detained on Saturday by the Kotri police for their alleged attempt to kidnap a 12-year-old girl in Kotri.

The police detained two policemen of the Jamshoro police station, Ali Ahmed Gopang and Ibrahim, and a railway employee, Ameen Rud.

They tried to kidnap Nasreen of the Kotri railway colony.

The father of Nasreen, Noor Mohammad, informed the police in writing that the accused had tried to kidnap his daughter on Friday night.

The neighbours arrived on the spot and saved the girl, the father said.

The arrested reportedly told the police that they had not tried to kidnap the girl.

They said that the girl was screaming while coming out of the house and when they inquired to know the cause, her father lodged a complaint against them.

The police did not register a case and sent the girl to the Kotri taluka hospital for check-up.
