Rs1.36bn succour sent from Punjab

LAHORE, Oct 29: Relief goods worth Rs1.3621 billion have been dispatched to the earthquake-hit areas in Azad Kashmir and the NWFP from Punjab and Rs200 million donated for victims till date under instructions from Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.

In addition, 98 trucks of relief goods were also dispatched on Saturday.

Relief director-general Irfan Elahi disclosed this during a meeting presided over by Punjab Revenue and Relief Minister Gul Hamid Khan Rokhari here on Saturday. Provincial Minister for Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Col Shuja Khanzada (retired) also attended the meeting.

He said that foodstuffs worth Rs304.5 million, blankets worth Rs512 million, tents valuing Rs307.5 million and medicines valuing Rs150 million had been transported for providing relief to quake victims.

He said that 98 truckloads of relief goods dispatched by government departments and private sector on Saturday included 63 trucks of blankets, 17 trucks of foodstuffs, eight trucks of tents and two trucks of medicines.
