KARACHI, Oct 29: Fifteen more patients, nine of them female, were brought to the city on Saturday from quake-hit areas for treatment in local hospitals. Most of the victims are with multiple pelvis injuries and hailed from Muzaffarabad and Azad Kashmir.
The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and private hospitals have undertaken their proper treatment.
The patients were airlifted from the PAF Base Faisal by a privately chartered C-130 aircraft under the supervision of Dr Tipu Sultan, head of the Anaesthesia section of the Civil Hospital Karachi.
SESSI: Sindh Labour Minister Mohammad Adil Siddiqui on Saturday issued directives for provision of medical facilities to those injured in the earthquake on a priority basis at the hospitals and health care centres run by the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (Sessi).
Mr Siddiqui, who is also chairman of Sessi, asked the commissioner of the institution to implement the directive at the Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital, Social Security Hospital, Landhi, and the Sessi-run hospitals and health care centres in other parts of Sindh.
The minister observed that a majority of the poor labourers residing in Site, Landhi and Korangi areas hailed from the areas struck by the quake.
Sessi Commissioner Rasool Bux Phulpoto had immediately issued orders in accordance with the minister’s directive.
KPT TEAM: The Karachi Port Trust has sent a team of eight doctors, including two orthopaedic surgeons, a general surgeon, and an anaesthetist, to the quake-hit areas of Buttle and Balakot.
The team is fully equipped with essential equipment and medicines for surgeries and medical examinations and has already provided treatment and other facilities to 458 patients of minor problems and 170 of major ones. Plastic surgeries in 42 cases have also been performed.
The KPT has also been providing follow-up treatment to the patients. In addition, the Trust has distributed relief goods, collected by its officers and workers, among quake victims in the areas.—APP/PPI
