England players visit hospital
ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Some of the England cricketers led by Michael Vaughan visited the quake-affected children at the PIMS Hospital on Friday.
Arriving amidst heavy security, the players that also included vice captain Marcus Trescothick, Matthew Hoggard, Ashley Giles besides the team doctor, were received by the hospital’s Executive Director Fazle Hadi.
The cricketers went around inquiring about the welfare of the patients at the childrens’ ward and Vaughan said later: “As a father myself it was distressing to see the injuries especially to the 25-day-old kid Ahmed Pervez who had both legs fractured.”
“However we have to remember that they are the lucky ones who received aid and medical treatment.”
Ahmed’s father Pervez Akhtar said that although he did not recognise the English cricketers, it was a noble gesture on their part to have paid a visit to the hospital.
Vaughan said it was important that with the winter approaching the need of those requiring blankets and tents in the earthquake zone was met quickly.
“We have been proud that so many Britishers have been helping the victims of the quake.”
The Oct 8 earthquake killed more than 53,000 people in the northern parts of the country.
