Gepco serves final notice on Wasa

GUJRANWALA, Oct 28: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is a defaulter of Rs12.5 million of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) while the latter issued final notice to former for early payment here on Friday.

It was stated Wasa has not paid any bill for the last two months.

The company said electricity to Wasa installations and offices would be disconnected in case of non-payment.

SHOT DEAD: A shopkeeper was killed in an exchange of fire between two rival groups in Saharan Chattha on Friday.

A rift between union council naib nazim Ikramul Haq and Imran was going on for the last few weeks.

They had an exchange of fire and a bullet hit Fiaz Ahmad who was sitting at his shop. He died on the spot.

HEARING: Provincial parliamentary secretary Mudassar Qayyum Nahra of Naushera Virkan, involved in a murder and police encounter case, appeared in the sessions court on Friday and sought exemption from personal appearance.

He pleaded that he has to visit various places in connection with his official duties that was why he could not attend proceedings.

The court adjourned the hearing for Nov 19.

Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism court No 2 on Friday continued the hearing of Madina Sayadan, Gujrat, murder case and recorded the statement of medical officer Dr Ghulam Abbas who conducted postmortem examination on the bodies of eight victims.

The court adjourned the hearing for Nov 10.

Truck fares: The district administration has fixed the fare of trucks for carrying relief goods to the quake-hit people in Islamabad and other cities, and issued the notification here on Friday.

DCO Khalid Masood Chaudhry said the fares had been fixed at a joint meeting of truckers and the district administration on the orders of the Punjab chief minister.

He said the fare of the truck from Gujranwala to Rawalpindi and Islamabad was fixed Rs4,000, Mazda truck (Rs3,000), to Garhi Habibullah and Balakot (Rs9,000). He said the agreement would be implemented with immediate effect.
