ADB team visits Dadu

DADU, Oct 28: The Asian Development Bank has selected six towns of Sindh for water supply, sanitation, sewerage and solid waste management schemes.

An ADB team arrived in the Dadu town on Friday to conduct survey and feasibility. Towns selected for the development projects included Mithi, Isla-mkot, Badin, Sanghar, Nau-shahro Feroze, Dadu and Kha-irpur, which will be provided with basic amenities under the Sindh Basic Urban Services scheme.

The ADB comprises consultants led by Mr Rojer Jackson, Mr Peter Lingwood (Britain), Mr Mitsuhiro Doya (Japan), Ms Tasneem Bhatti, Ms Chand Bibi, Khalid Khan, Hussain Bux, Ghulam Rabbani and Aftab Shaikh.

Engineer of taluka municipal administration, Gulzar Ali Khushik, helped the team to conduct a survey of different parts of the city. The consultants also held meetings with the Dadu taluka nazim, NGOs, councillors, advocates and citizens at the taluka municipal administration.

Talking to Dawn Ms Tasneem Bhatti said that 50 million dollars would be utilized to upgrade the facilities of water supply, sanitation, sewerage and solid waste management.

The designing and planning have been started which would be completed by April 2006 and work on these schemes would be initiated next year.

She said that earlier works were carried out on the grass roots level without planning, but now these works would be carried out with planning of stakeholders, TMOs and taluka nazims would provide facilities to these selected towns of the province.

She said that seminars and workshops would be held from November 2005 to January 2006, suggestions would be sought from the participants and importance would be given to local community.
