KARACHI, Oct 28: The Jamaat-i-Islami has launched a “Jholi Fund” campaign in the city for relief and rehabilitation of quake victims. Former City Nazim Niamatullah Khan, Central Coordinator of the Al-Khidmat, on Friday, which was the campaign’s second day, collected funds at various places including outside Jamia Masjid Khizra, Jamia Masjid Arambagh and Masjid Babul Islam at Fresco Chowk.
People coming out of mosques after offering prayers, and shopkeepers in the vicinity, besides buyers and passers contributed donation in cash to the relief fund.
Besides, the JI has also launched a peoples’ contact drive at bazars, markets, shopping centres and public places for the same. The drive will continue till Eidul Fitr.
A great enthusiasm was witnessed among people, who welcomed the former nazim amongst them, according to a JI press release.
JI workers also went to shopkeepers in groups and collected funds from them.
Mr Niamat expressed gratitude for their cooperation in the Jholi Fund and said the way people had demonstrated generosity in providing relief to the quake victims had proved that the entire nation was one, and if there was a calamity in one part of the country, it was felt by all.
The snowfall season was about to begin and the quake victims immediately needed tents and blankets, he said, adding that his organization, the Al-Khidmat Welfare Society, had planned to distribute 50,000 tents among the affected.
