KARACHI: Cleanliness drive in three towns begins


KARACHI, Oct 28: The Liaquatabad Town Administration removed more than 23,000 tons of garbage from UC-7 of the FC Area near railway line. According to a statement of the Liaquatabad Town Administration, residents of the area appreciated the step taken on the directives of Town Nazim Osama Qadri.

Talking to people the town nazim said there was a plan to establish a recreational spot on a piece of land cleaned by the town administration in UC-8, FC Area, while a nursery would be set up in UC-7 near the railway line.

He informed that these plans had been made to discourage the land mafia and other unscrupulous elements.

Mr Qadri told the area residents that 12 recycling plants would be installed by the city government which would ensure quick removal of garbage from various points of the city.

On the occasion he directed the concerned SHO to take an immediate action against criminal elements functioning in the FC Area and Punjab Colony.

The town nazim assured the residents that the construction of a pedestrian bridge would be undertaken near Zeenat Square.

Meanwhile, Landhi Town Nazim Mohammad Ismail Qureshi said that necessary measures had been taken with immediate effect for the up gradation of sewerage network and resolving the problem of water pollution being faced by the people.

A statement issued here on Friday said that the town nazim visited Landhi No 6 to inspect the water and sewerage lines and to review the ongoing cleaning of the sewerage lines.

It said that the town administration had a plan to separate the water supply lines from the sewage drains.

It also said that the sanitary staff of the town had also removed the sewage water from different streets after continuous six hours dewatering.

It further said that the Town Municipal Officer, Mohammad Nazir Lakhani, Nazim UC-8 of the town, Sajid Ahmed Khan and XEN Sewerage, Zubairul Haq were also present along with the town nazim during the visit.

Jamshed Town Nazim Col (retd) Syed Tahir Mushahdi has warned the corrupt staff and officers of the town, of the anti-corruption drive to be launched after Eid.

The town nazim asked them to mend their ways and to concentrate on the welfare of the people, otherwise stern disciplinary action would be taken against them during the drive in question.

He urged the staff and officer during a visit to various offices of the Jamshad Town to have first-hand knowledge of their duties and responsibilities, said a news release on Friday.

“It is the need of the hour to uproot the corrupt elements, so that the development work in the city is carried out with full pace and is visible with prominence to every body”, he said.

He said due to corruption, funds were not utilized fully for carrying out the development work.

Those who make all out efforts in providing facilities to solve the problems of the people would be awarded, the town nazim added.—APP
