Many more organizations bring in relief goods

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: The UAE Boy Scouts Association has donated 20 tons of relief goods to earthquake affected people in Pakistan. These include tents, blankets, warm clothes, dates and other food supplies.

An eight-member team of the UAE scouts, led by General- Secretary of the association, Dr Ahmad Thani Al-Dousari accompanied the relief goods on board a special plane, arrived at Chaklala air base last night.

“This is part of donations collected by scouts offices and Pakistani association in UAE,” Dr Ahmad Thani Al-Dousari said.

The delegation stayed just for 3 hours and delivered the aid material to Pakistan Boy Scouts Association at Islamabad Airport.

World Organization of Scout Movement consisting upon more than 200 countries and World Scout Bureau of Asia-Pacific Region with the membership of 23 countries and other scouting regions of the world are offering to send the contributions medicines surgical equipment foodstuff tents and other relief goods.

Sudan BSA, team led by Dr Atif Abdul Majid, international commissioner, arrived here and handed over the first consignment of 40-ton relief goods to its Pakistani counterpart for further distribution.

Sudan BSA arranged 150,000 blankets 180 tons relief goods, including medicines, surgical instrument, and non perishable food.

FRANCE: France has assured Pakistan of cooperation in the rehabilitation of earthquake affected people.

French ambassador Redges De Belli Net observed this in a meeting with Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao here on Thursday.

QATAR’S CONTRIBUTION: The Qatari relief team has established a healthcare unit at Muzaffarabad to look after the injured victims of the surrounding areas.

The Qatari Red Crescent is also in the process of establishing a specialized health care facility at Chakhora, situated in the vicinity of Bagh District, which include 60-bed unit with a total of 45 members staff, among whom are 5 doctors and 16 nurses. It will continue operate for 5-6 months depending on the situation.

The medical staff will be rotated every 21 days.

It is worth mentioning that the ruler of Qatar, Shaikh Hamad Bin Khailfa Al-Thani, after the massive quake hit Azad Kashmir and northern parts of Pakistan on October 8, directed all the concerned authorities in the State to immediately send relief assistance to the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan.

After the assessment of the damage caused by the disaster, a team of 120 Qatari relief experts was immediately sent to the affected areas, who started distributing relief goods and providing first aid medical help to the injured in the far flung areas, climbing high attitude mountains near Chakhoti, Uthmuquam and Muzaffarabad.

As far as the relief flights are concerned, the Qatar Red Crescent Society and Qatar Charity jointly managed to arrange 3202 tents, 507 beds, 24,360 blankets, 11.6 tons dates, 55 medical kits, 928-box powder milk (each box for 70 kgs) through many flights for the distribution in the quake-hit areas.

The Qatar Charity also established a medical facility near Mansehra hospital to look after the victims housing in 100 tents as the hospital itself destroyed during the quake.

The charity also distributed blankets among 500 families, beds and gas cylinders among 150 families and food items among 4,000 families in the outskirts of Mansehra.

The charity also provided a good quantity of medicines to the Mansehra Central Hospital.
