KARACHI: Two killed in Lyari gang-war

KARACHI, Oct 27: Two persons were killed and two others injured in a gang-war between two notorious groups belonging to Lyari on Thursday. Police said that dead and the injured reportedly belonged to Rehman Dakait group, and they were attacked by their rivals in the Garden area.

Earlier in the evening, an explosive device was lobbed on an under- construction building in Lyari, which caused minor damage to the building. Police suspected that Arshad Pappu group was behind the blast.

Police said that four friends were sitting at the Hasan Lakshami hotel in the limits of Garden police when two persons wearing helmets on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire on them and escaped.

Police said Owais Baloch and Muzzamil Baloch died while Shaukat Juma and Farooq were wounded.

Police said that father of Owais Baloch was also killed in a similar manner several year ago. Following the incident, tension gripped the area. Police said that deceased were in contact with Rehman Dakait group

Giving details of the blast, TPO Lyari Omar Shahid said that unknown persons lobbed an explosive device on an under construction building which fell on construction material. A car parked nearby was also damaged in the blast. However, no casualties were reported.

DIES: A young woman who had sustained bullet wounds in an encounter near Gillani Railway station died during treatment at the JPMC late Wednesday night. The woman was identified as Zahida.

Three persons were wounded in what police claimed an encounter near Gillani Railway on Wednesday.

Police said that a mobile of the Aziz Bhatti police was patrolling in the area when they noticed two persons on a motorcycle roaming around in a suspicions manner.

As the police tried to intercept them, they opened fire and managed to escape. Police also returned the fire. During the cross-fire, three persons identified as Nusrat, 12, Zahida, 25 and Ghulam Rasool who were present in the nearby hutment sustained bullet injuries. They were taken to JPMC for treatment.

The police claimed that they have arrested the suspects involved in the encounter.
