Budget deal

HAMPTON COURT, Oct 27: British Prime Minister Tony Blair conceded on Thursday that an EU budget deal is “a tall order,” but said it is crucial for the bloc’s future and vowed to do his best to strike a deal by December.

The 25-nation European Union’s efforts to agree a deal on its 2007-2013 budget collapsed amid acrimony in June, and pressure is growing for an accord, notably from EU newcomer states awaiting much-needed EU funds.—AFP
