ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: International donors continued to fly in emergency relief assistance for quake victims on the 16th consecutive day of the relief operation and several more aircraft landed at Chaklala Air base.
A Turkish C-130 aircraft carrying ambulance and iron plates landed here at Chaklala Airbase. Another cargo aircraft from France carrying 3250 kg tents, medicines and medical baggage also arrived here.
A C-130 aircraft from Afghanistan carrying four tonnes blankets also landed at the air base.Similarly, two C-130 aircraft of Japan Air Force carrying a helicopter and spare parts landed at Chaklala airbase early Monday.
A cargo aircraft of Al-Saudia carrying 72.4 tonnes tents also arrived here. A cargo aircraft from United Kindom carrying one helicopter, one truck and a 24-member rescue team arrived here. Similarly, a cargo plan from United Arab Emirates loaded with 42 tonnes rice and other food items landed at the air base.
A cargo aircraft from the USA carrying 11245 kg wooden boxes for support of tents arrived here. Similarly a USA aircraft carrying a 101-member medical rescue team also landed here.
According to Inter Services Public Relations sources, 35 countries have sent assistance that include USA, Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, Russia and Azerbaijan have provided helicopters for the relief operation.Two helicopters of Aga Khan Foundation are also taking part in the relief operation.
The total number of helicopters has now reached upto 60. Twenty more Chinook helicopters from US will join the rescue operation in a day or two, they added.
A Japanese medical team has set up a field hospital in Batagram and Agha Khan Foundation had set up hospitals in Balakot and Mansehra while a Russian satellite field hospital has also been set up in Muzaffarabad where the injured are being provided prompt medical help.
US: The United States (US) Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART), USAID and the US military continue to work with the Government of Pakistan and other partners to provide humanitarian assistance to relieve the suffering of the victims and to minimize further loss of life.
The USAID Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) announced on October 22 that it has committed $4.5 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross to support procurement and delivery of relief supplies to the affected areas. This is in addition to the $50 million pledged by the United States in immediate aid for Pakistan.
HUNGARIAN-SLOVAK TEAM: A joint team from Hungary and Slovakia specializing in decontamination and disinfection of disaster areas, organized by MOL Group, has arrived here to aid the relief efforts ongoing in Pakistan in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake that stuck the northern region of Pakistan.
The team will assist the government in its activities to make the disaster areas suitable for living once again. The team according to a press release, is comprised of 12 members and is fully equipped with necessary decontamination and disinfection equipment, along with logistics and rescue gear.
US-BASED EXPATS: A US-based welfare organisation ‘Pakistan Association of Greater Boston’ is actively taking part in relief efforts for the earth quake victims in Pakistan.
The head of the organisation, Dure-i-Afzal talking to Voice Of America said,”Our first priority is fund raising.
The US people have also warmly donated for the quake-affected people. In this connection, we are coordinating with other Pakistani welfare organisations,” he added.
AFGHAN TEAM: A 30-member medical team will set up a medic‘l camp in Muzaffarabad to augment efforts of the government to provide medical treatment to the injured of Oct 8 earthquake.
