Indian troops kill five in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Indian troops have shot dead five Kashmiri militants, officials said on Monday. Three were killed late Sunday in northern Kupwara district, an Indian army spokesman, Vijay Batra said.

He said the three were trying to cross into Azad Kashmir from the Indian side when they were asked to stop.

“It turned into a gunbattle that left three militants dead,” Mr Batra said.

Meanwhile, police said troops shot dead two other suspected militants in the southern district of Doda on Monday.—AFP
