Makkah to host Islamic summit in December

By Syed Rashid Husain

RIYADH: An extraordinary Islamic summit will be held in Makkah on December 7-8 this year to discuss current situation of the Muslim world, the secretariat of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) announced here on Monday.

The dates have been finalized in consultation with host Saudi Arabia.

Atta-al-Mannan Bakheet, the official spokesperson for the OIC, said the summit will be preceded by a preparatory conference of foreign ministers of the Islamic countries on Dec 6, 2005 in Makkah.

The summit of Muslim leaders from all over the world has been convened at the initiative of Saudi King Abdullah.

Earlier in September, the OIC had organised a three-day forum of Muslim scholars and intellectuals from all over the Islamic world to discuss the problems of the Muslim world and suggest their solution. The recommendations of the forum are also expected to be submitted in the extraordinary Islamic summit.
