KARACHI: KWSB told to improve water distribution network
KARACHI, Oct 24: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has directed KWSB Managing Director, District Coordinating Officer and all departments concerned to employ every possible resource in improving the water distribution network of the city.
While addressing a press conference on Monday, he directed all departments concerned to work round-the-clock to enhance water distribution network.
He said that the city’s total water requirement was 648mgd while it was being supplied with 540mgd at present. After completion of K-III project by June 2006, he said, 100mgd additional water would be available.
However, he said that the existing water supply system was not capable to supply more 100mgd water to the city. Enhancement of water distribution network within next seven to eight months was essential to avoid wastage of water, he added.
He said that upgradation of water supply infrastructure was the top most priority and the next two years would require improvement of the whole water supply and sewerage network of city.
Speaking about sewerage network, Mustafa Kamal said that total water discharge of city was about 350mgd while present treatment plant of city was not capable to treat the total sewage of the city.
Earlier, KWSB officials briefed him about the requirements and situation of the water supply and sewerage system.
Meanwhile, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal directed concerned officials to ensure cleanliness around Imambargahs and routes of Yaum-i-Ali procession within next 24 hours.
He stated this while chairing a meeting at his office to review arrangements for Yaum-i-Ali procession. The meeting was attended by DCO Fazlur Rehman, CCPO Tariq Jamil, DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid, town nazims, TMOs, concerned senior officials of utility departments and ulema from different schools of thought.
The nazim asked that close coordination of management of the procession with all town nazims, TMOs and other concerned officials be ensured.
He also appealed to ulema and religious leaders to play their role in maintaining religious tolerance and Islamic brotherhood on the occasion of Yaum-i-Ali. — APP/PPI
