Karachi: Residents of coastal areas felt tremors before iftar, although the quake-measuring devices of the Met Office did not register them, our staff reporter adds.
The director-general of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Dr Qamaruzzaman Chaudhry, said it appeared that these tremors were not related to earthquake activity.
“In some cases, earthquakes are of too low intensity to be recorded. But today’s tremors are not related to earthquake,” he said.
Residents of Karachi’s coastal areas said that tremors were strong and should not have passed unnoticed by the Met office’s devices. Employees of a newspaper located in Defence Housing Society left their building when tremors shook the area.
