Shoaib finally reports at camp

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Oct 23: Paceman Shoaib Akhtar finally reported on Sunday after a delay of two days at the training camp at Qadhafi Stadium for the home series against England starting from Nov 12 with the first Test to be played in Multan.

The camp commenced on Friday to finalize Pakistan team for the series.

Shoaib, who missed the last two series against India and the West Indies this year due to fitness and attitude problems bowled in the camp for half an hour before he was checked by trainer Compton.

After a 15-minute rest Shoaib bowled again for another 15 minutes.

He was reluctant to speak to journalists even though his skipper Inzamamul Haq had allowed him.

“I will not talk because the chairman (PCB) has advised me not to issue any statement,” Shoaib said.

Shoaib held a brief meeting with the chairman and coach Bob Woolmer before attending the camp.

He said that the media could form their own opinions about his fitness after watching him train at the camp.

Chairman PCB Shaharyar watched the pacer bowl from behind the nets.

Bob Woolmer, too, avoided making any comment on Shoaib saying “I will not give any comment on him (Shoaib) until the final trial match”.

The trial match is scheduled to be held at Qadhafi Stadium on Oct 26-29 after which Pakistan team would be announced.
