Speaker and deputy speaker end differences

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 23: Speaker of Balochistan Assembly Jamal Shah Kakar and Deputy Speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhootani have ended their differences on the intervention of Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani “in the larger interest of the province and democracy”.

After the rapprochement, the speaker is now expected to reject the resignation the deputy speaker had tendered in June over differences with the speaker on certain issues, including appointments on assembly posts.

“Yes, we have ended our differences in the larger interest of the province and democracy and to honour the desire of Balochistan’s governor,” Mr Bhootani told Dawn.

The governor had a meeting with the two at an Iftar dinner he hosted in their honour at Governor House here on Saturday night. Finance Minister Syed Ehsan Shah and Health Minister Hafiz Hamadullah were also present.

The issue was discussed in detail during which it was observed that differences between the two had developed due to some misunderstanding. It was decided that the speaker would reject the resignation of Mr Bhootani.

The deputy speaker would also withdraw his constitutional petition he had filed in the Balochistan High Court against the speaker.

The proceedings of the assembly were being affected due to the resignation of the deputy speaker.

The governor said that as constitutional head of the province, it was his desire that speaker and deputy speaker of Balochistan Assembly resolve their differences and work jointly for upholding democracy.
