KARACHI, Oct 22: Three-year-old colt, Tharkyee, is fancied to extend his winning run when the Winter Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, Tharkyee had three victories on the trot and his credentials put him in a strong position to make it four in a row. On the current form and fitness, he will also be our day’s best.

Slated to appear in the seventh and last race of the day on a sprinting distance of six furlong, he would be confronted by ten opponents. Those who are likely to pose him serious challenge includes seven-year-old mare, Birj-ul-Arab, four-year-old filly, Countess Mah Again and three-year-old colt, Arab-Hi-Arab.

A card of seven races has been drawn for the day. The first race of the programme begins at 12.30 noon.

Nine-year-old mare, Taneez, is tipped to land the opener which had a field of eleven contenders. Taneez settled for a place in the Oct 12 meeting but surprisingly was among those who also ran in the last race.

Chestnut, I’M So Happy and eight-year-old mare, Roop Ki Rani, should fight for the places.

Kamal Farooq’s two-year-old colt, Zidane, who ran away with the Kingree Lodge Performance Cup in his debut on the Independence Day, is favourite to repeat his winning feat.

To be contested for Flower Plate, the race will have seven runners in fray. Mir Sab and Moon Raker, both two-year-old colts, stood bright chances for grabbing a place.

The third race having a field of 13 aspirants should throw a new champion in eight-year-old half-bred, Desperado.

Chestnut, Cool Water and mare, Ultimate Victory, enjoys an edge over others to secure a place.

Three-year-old colt, Rahil Pearl, is fancied to dictate terms in the fourth race that will feature 14 contestants. He was sprinted home by jockey M. Yousuf on Oct 12.

Eight-year-old dark bay horse, Tag Team and ten-year-old thorough-bred Pakistani horse Dhoom Machade are poised to grab places.

Leo Again, a four-year-old colt, should return with flying colours in the fifth race while three-year-old filly, Voo Doo Doll, had a bright chance of making it two in a row in the next race.
