PESHAWAR: ANP’s concern over delay in relief work

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Oct 22: The Awami National Party has expressed concern over government’s failure to reach remote areas hit by the last week’s earthquake and has asked for speedy relief work and to reach victims still buried under the debris.

A press statement issued on Friday by the ANP said that a team of its leaders had visited the far-flung areas in Mansehra and Balakot and had distributed 21 trucks of relief items which had been collected by the party workers in the NWFP and Karachi.

The statement said that the victims of the quake were still lying beneath the debris even after passage of two weeks and blamed both the provincial and federal governments for their failure to take timely measures and rescue people affected by the disaster.

Roads in affected areas remain blocked and those who wanted to help their brethren were facing hurdles in reaching them, the statement said.
