KARACHI: Khalique Juma dies


KARACHI, Oct 22: Prominent political and social leader of Lyari Town Abdul Khalique Juma, 65, died here on Saturday after a brief illness. He leaves behind two sons and five daughters and a large number of his admirers to mourn his death.

He was buried at Mewashah Graveyard in the afternoon. His funeral procession was attended by people from all walks of life. Prominent among them were PPP leaders Raza Rabbani, Rashid Rabbani, Syed Qaim Ali, Taj Haider.

The late Juma was the first Nazim of Lyari Town.

Last year, the late Juma had a heart problem and went on a by-pass surgery. He was admitted to a local hospital for heart, kidney and gastro related complications.

Juma started his political career in the 1960s when he was elected BD member. In 1973, he joined the PPP. He was thrice elected MPA from the party platform in 1988,1993 and 1996 elections. In 1993 when the PPP was power in Sindh, he was made a provincial minister for marketing, supplies and prices.
