ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: Business, labour and government leaders from key textile and clothing producing and consuming countries will meet on Monday for wide-ranging talks on the future of the industry in the wake of last year’s phase-out of the Multi-Fibre Arrangement (MFA).
An official in the ministry of textile industry told Dawn on Saturday that an official delegation would represent Pakistan to the meeting scheduled for October 24-25 in Geneva.
The high-level meeting will bring together leaders from the concerned parties who produce, buy and sell textiles and clothing for the first time since the MFA phase-out to examine what has happened since then.
The ILO tripartite meeting will also examine innovative approaches in a number of countries and textile and clothing enterprises in their search for improved competitiveness. Their experiences provide useful material for the elaboration of a global strategy to promote fair globalization in the sector.
