Under-19 Inter-region Championship: Rawalpindi in sight of victory against Karachi

RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: Rawalpindi pushed Karachi Urban into a tight corner by taking 168 runs first innings lead and then reducing the visitors down to a second innings 183 four wickets on the second day of three-day National Under-19 Inter-region cricket Championship at ARL Ground on Friday.
Karachi Urban were just 15 runs up with six second innings wickets intact at the stumps, after they were bowled out for a mere 86 in 29.3 overs in their first knock earlier in the day, thus conceding a lead of 168 runs while replying to the local side’s 254.
In their second innings, Abdul Saad did his bit to stay at the crease with 41 not out while other notable scorers were Muhammad Haamid Khan (24), Shaan Masood (30) and Syed Talib Ali (27).
The main wicket-takers for Rawalpindi were Akhter Ayub (2-52), Rameez (1-34) and Yasim Murtaza (1-28).
Hasib Amjad (5-34) and Akhter Ayub (4-43) were the wreckers-in- chief after Karachi resumed their first innings on overnight 36-4.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Propelled by centuries by openers Abid Ali and Mehroz Khan, Lahore Ravi gained 105 runs lead on the first innings against Hyderabad on the second day of National Inter- region under-19 cricket championship at the Lahore Country Club, Muridke on Friday.
Abid struck 185-ball 113 with 23 fours while Mehroz scored 102 off 203 balls, cracking 16 boundaries as Lahore Ravi piled up 285 while replying to Hyderabad’s total of 180.
Abid and Mehroz gave Lahore Ravi an opening stand of 196 but once they were separated the remaining batsmen could only muster 89 runs.
Medium-pacer Lal Kumar (4-26) and leg-spinner Noman Ali (4- 63) were the key wicket takers for Hyderabad.
By the stumps, Hyderabad were 54 for one in the second innings.
A six-wicket burst by medium-pacer Raza Rehman enabled Lahore Shalimar to force Sialkot to follow-on at the Saga Ground, Sialkot.
Replying to Lahore’s score of 334, Sialkot were bundled out For 141 in the first innings as Raza finished with six for 21.
By the close of play, Sialkot were still in trouble losing four wickets for 107, still requiring 86 more runs to avoid an innings defeat.
