LAHORE, Oct 21: The Federal Investigation Agency, in collaboration with the federal drug inspectors, seized on Friday spurious medicines, including life-saving drugs, worth millions of rupees from three factories.

Officials said the agency received information that Almas, Yasin and Ayfza pharmaceuticals in Lakhudair (Bund Road), Begumkot and Mian Colony (Shahdara), respectively, were producing spurious drugs in abundance.

An FIA team, comprising deputy director Muhammad Ajmal, assistant director Khurshid Malik and inspector Rao Sadiq, raided the factories and seized the drugs. It also arrested their owners, Muhammad Yousaf, Muhammad Jamil and Muhammad Mansha, besides two employees —- Hammad Farooq and Muhammad Faqir.

FIA Director-General Tariq Pervaiz told Dawn that the factories had enhanced the production of life-saving drugs and antibiotics after the quake to exploit the situation.

He said the agency had launched a comprehensive campaign against the spurious drug dealers in the country and any one having such a piece of information could contact it.

A case has been registered against the suspects under the drug act.
