HONG KONG, Oct 19: Experienced campaigner Robin Singh will Lead India desperate to capture their first title at 2005 Hong Kong International cricket Sixes this weekend.
Singh, former Indian Test and one-day star who also coaches Hong Kong national team, will captain squad for Oct 22-23 tournament at Kowloon Cricket Club. Others are Nikhil Chopra, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Sanjay Bangar, Sunil Joshi, Reetinder Singh Sodhi and Vivek Razdan.
India reached the final in inaugural tournament in 1992 only to be beaten by arch-rivals Pakistan in 1992 and West Indies in 1996.
Pakistan, who have previously won the tournament on four occasions and are most successful team along with England are drawn in Pool 2 with India, West Indies and South Africa. Pool 1 comprises defending champions England, Sri Lanka, hosts Hong Kong and Australia.
Clive Howard, Chairman Hong Kong Cricket Association (HKCA), said all-action short form version of game was thrilling crowds since its inception in 1992 and HKCA officials are confident this year will be best yet.
Games are played in five-over innings, with each team member, other than wicketkeeper, bowling one over. The eight competing teams are split into two groups of four and play each other on a round-robin basis on day one.
Top two teams in each pool will progress to Cup competition knockout stages, while bottom two teams in each of pools will compete for the Plate.
