PESHAWAR, Oct 19: The provincial health department is establishing medical camps in accessible quake-affected areas, says Health Minister Inayatullah Khan. Speaking at a meeting of the coordination committee at the Mansehra district headquarters hospital on Wednesday, he directed the secretary and director-general health to supervise healthcare activities in Mansehra, Kohistan and Battagram.
The minister said that teams of doctors and health workers were being sent to far-flung areas which could not have been reached by helicopters and added that horses and mules were being used for the purpose.
Appreciating the spirit of donor agencies, health workers and NGOs, he called for enhancing the relief activities, particularly medical assistance. He welcomed the aid committed by international organizations.
He directed the health authorities to help donor agencies in setting up medical camps in remotest parts of quake-affected areas.
Health Secretary Abdus Samad Khan and Director-General Dr Jalilur Rehman were asked to establish field camp office in Mansehra to coordinate relief activities.
Earlier, the minister visited several affected villages in Balakot and Battagram and assured victims of help.
