GUJRANWALA, Oct 19: Angry students of a higher secondary school took out a protest procession and brought traffic to a standstill on Wahando Road for not providing them required facilities by the school administration on Wednesday.

The protesting students also burnt used tyres. Carrying banners and placards, they also shouted slogans against the school administration.

They alleged that the teaching staff, including the principal, were not taking interest in resolving their problems with regard to furniture, fans, latrines and other basic requirements. Instead, they claimed that they were being victimized on various pretext.

They demanded that the principal should be transferred immediately besides resolving their genuine grievances.

While the school principal said that some teachers were instigating students against him over an election rift.

However, the police restored the traffic after two hours by resorting to baton charge on protesters. Later, the police also took several students into custody.

ACQUITTED: A local court acquitted a woman and her lover in a hudood ordinance case when witnesses changed their statement here on Wednesday.

Reports said that Peoples Colony police had raided a house and arrested woman ‘R’ and her alleged lover Ziaullah some one year back.
