GUJRANWALA, Oct 19: Satellite Town police on Wednesday arrested five Edhi Centre activists for selling relief goods in the flea market here on Wednesday. Reports said that Gujranwala citizens had handed over eight trucks of relief goods to the Edhi Centre for sending them to the quake-affected areas some two days ago. But its activists sold the relief goods to the flea market at Rs600 per maund while the total weight of goods was 15,000kg.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided there and seized the relief goods and arrested the five accused.

Those held were identified as Edhi centre supervisor Muhammad Nadeem, driver Saifur Rehman and clerks Naveed Ahmad, Shakeel Ahmad and Anjum. Police also arrested flea market trader Muhammad Javed.

A case has been registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, DIG Zafar Abbas Lak and DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq announced cash awards and commendation certificates for SHO Arif Khan and other raiding party members.

Three held: Naushera Virkan police claimed on Wednesday to have found clue to the murder of a rickshaw driver after two months and arrested three accused.

Police said Muhammad Ashfaq, Ghulam Ali and Khalid hired the rickshaw of Khurram Shahzad for Kot Ladha. Near the village, they drove away with the three-wheeler after throwing him on the road and later shot him dead when he raised an alarm.

The heirs of Mr Shahzad had protested against the police and urged DPO Dr. Arif Mushtaq to get the murder accused arrested. On a tip-off, a raiding party arrested them on Wednesday.

Police have also recovered the rickshaw and arms from their possession.

A murder case has been registered.

BISE SENDS GOODS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Wednesday sent two truckloads of rice, ghee and other articles to Hajeera border area of Muzaffarabad for quake-hit victims.

BISE Chairman Masoodul Haq said the board employees and senior officers already had announced their one-day salary for the quake-hit people.
