KARACHI: Roads to be cleaned at night

Published October 20, 2005

KARACHI, Oct 19: Cleaning of city roads and disposal of garbage would be undertaken during nights, instead of day time. The decision would, however, be given a final shape at a joint meeting of the town nazims on Thursday. City nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, will preside over the meeting.

It was decided at a review meeting of the CDGK’s solid waste management department held at the City Nazim Secretariat’s committee room.

Presiding over the meeting, the city Nazim, Mustafa Kamal, urged the officials to ensure preparation of PC-I of the four proposed garbage transfer stations during the current month so that the proposal is implemented without any further delay.

Emphasising the need for introducing a modern and better sweeping system in the city, he said that since sweeping staff was gradually declining, officials are required to do future planning and take immediate measures for acquiring machinery so that scope of mechanical sweeping of roads is widened.
