KARACHI: Release of funds to local govts ordered


KARACHI, Oct 19: The financial releases and utilization in respect of Provincial ADP 2005-06 was reviewed at a meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, on Wednesday.

The meeting decided that finance secretary would take steps for immediate release of funds to local and district governments for implementation of their projects and programmes. It was decided that all funds of 70 per cent completed schemes would be released forthwith to ensure their completion on time.

It was also decided that finance secretary would provide consolidated report in respect of all districts to Sindh Accountant-General for transfer of funds to accounts of concerned districts and taluka municipal administrations under the laid down rules and regulations so that the needful could be done within three days.

Reviewing the Road Sector Development Programme, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khero told the meeting that under the ADP 2005-2006 out of Rs24 billion uplift funds, Rs17.211 billion development schemes were ongoing at provincial level under various administrative departments, while rest of Rs6.789 billion funds were allocated for the uplift schemes of district governments.

Besides, the chief secretary called for steps for appointment of finance and planning staff in the districts.–APP/PPI
