KARACHI: Ibad asks nazims to identify priorities


KARACHI, Oct 19: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad has exhorted the representatives of local governments to move ahead after clearly determining their priorities for solving public problems and making the facilities available at lower level.

He was addressing the newly elected nazims of city and district governments, tehsils and towns at Governor’s House on Wednesday. Sindh Senior Minister Sardar Ahmed, Local Government Adviser Wasim Akhtar, Industries Minister Adil Siddiqi, Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi, Planning Minister Shoaib Bukhari, Excise and Taxation Adviser M.A. Jalil and Information Adviser Salahuddin Hyder were also present.

The governor emphasized that focus of all government efforts was to bring improvement in the quality of life of common man and objective of local government system was to devolve the powers to grassroots level so that provision of facilities and development activities could be carried out in accordance with the aspirations of people.

Dr Ibad also stressed on improvement in health and sanitation, construction of roads, transport as well as supply of clean drinking water to all people of the province. In this regard, he called for achieving immediate headway with the cooperation of federal and provincial governments. He informed them about government plan for installation of filter plants in all the towns, tehsils up to union council level.

He also asked the provincial ministers to extend all possible cooperation to local governments and particularly help them in capacity buildings. —APP
