One killed as Mengal clans clash

QUETTA, Oct 18: One person was killed and five others were injured, two of them seriously, in an armed clash between two clans of the Mengal tribe in Wadah area, some 400km south of here, on Tuesday.

A rocket hit the residence of Sardar Ataullah Mengal and his grandson Mir Asadullah Mengal suffered injuries, sources said, adding that tribal elders, including district nazim Khuzdar Sardar Naseer Ahmed Moosiani and Mir Zafarullah Zehri, the younger brother of Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, were in the Mengal’s house when rocket hit the house.

According to reports reaching here, armed men of the two clans of the Mengal tribe, Shahaizai and Mohammadzai, took positions against each other at around 11am and started firing on each other. The exchange of fire continued till late evening during which automatic weapons and rockets were also used. One unidentified pedestrian was killed and five tribesmen received injuries. All the injured were taken to the civil hospital in Khuzdar.

The injured tribesmen included Sardar Ataullah Mengal’s grandson Asadullah Mengal and Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal, son of federal Minister of State Mir Naseer Ahmed Mengal.
