Captive tortured in jail

FAISALABAD, Oct 18: A condemned prisoner was shifted to the Allied Hospital after being tortured by the Central Jail staff here on Tuesday. Ramzan of Chak 142-GB, Samundri, the brother of condemned prisoner Ghafran Ahmad, complained to court that his brother was tortured by jail warder Mehr Riaz and other officials for not paying the bribe.

The court ordered medical examination of the prisoner, and he was admitted to the Allied Hospital in critical condition.

His relatives told newsmen that torture on jail inmates for not paying nazrana had become a routine.

They urged President Musharraf to take stock of the situation and direct the authorities concerned to conduct surprise raids on all jails in the province. — Staff Correspondent
