MPAs stage walkout

PESHAWAR, Oct 18: Lawmakers unanimously staged a walkout against the behaviour of the NWFP Assembly staff, who allegedly switched off the microphone when an MPA was about to speak on the beating of her husband by an employee on Tuesday.

As Rukhsana Raz of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, whose husband Raza Mohammad was injured by a gatekeeper in the morning, stood to inform the house about the incident, her mike was switched off allegedly by the sound section staff sitting in the hall.

This infuriated the lawmakers and MPAs Javed Mohamand and Maulana Idrees demanded stern action against the employees.

Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan suspended the gatekeeper, Naushad, and formed a three-member inquiry committee, led by Deputy Speaker Ikramullah Shahid, asking it to present its report in the house.

The scuffle begun when Mr Raz reportedly tried to bring a person on the assembly premises without an entry pass.
