PESHAWAR, Oct 18: Two African women were found guilty of drug trafficking by additional district and sessions judge Nasrullah Khan Ghandapur on Tuesday and were sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 each.

The convicts, Kulsoom Kasim, from Uganda, and Meena Janker of Cape Town, South Africa, were arrested by the officials of the customs department at the Peshawar International Airport on May 7, when they were boarding a plane for the Middle East.

They were injected some drugs at a local hospital following which about 141 capsules concealed in their stomach were recovered. The capsules contained heroin weighing 1,400 grams.

They were charged under section 9 of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act and section 156 (a)(178) of the Customs Act.

The additional public prosecutor, Gohar Saleem, appeared for the state and argued that the women were caught red handed.

He added that they had swallowed the capsules which contained heroin.
