Relief work in full swing

MANSEHRA, Oct 17: The commander of the Army Relief Camp, Mansehra, Major Gen Syed Shakeel Hussain Shah, has said that relief operation is being carried out with vigour in the quake-stricken Mansehra, Batgram and Kohistan districts and relief camps have been established in Balakot, Garhi Habibullah, Batgram and Besham.

Briefing media-men at the Mansehra Sports Stadium here on Monday, he said five brigades of Pakistan Army had been deployed in the affected areas for rescue and relief operation.

DCO Mansehra Shakeel Qadir was also present on the occassion. Gen Shakeel said so far 455 tons of relief goods had been despatched to the affected area and more relief work was being carried out in the far-flung hilly areas with the help of 15 helicopters.

He said that road link upside Balakot had been restored up to Jaraid and in Seron valley, the raod link has been restored up to Nawazabad.

He said the inclement weather was hampering rescue operation but the jawans of Pakistan Army despite all hardships were making all out efforts to help the affected people.

He said that field hospitals have been established in Mansehra, Balakot, Gari Habibullah, Batgram and Dadar where the affected people were provided all facilities of treatment.

He said the teams of doctors and experts from Iran, China, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Estonia were helping the local doctors and giving full support and medical aid.

To a question Gen Shah said that the death toll due to the earthquake in Hazara could rise above 25,000.
